LDL Cholesterol Condition Treatments (in order of superiority):

Crestor

Cholesterol is a waxy substance that occurs naturally in the body, but it’s not always good. There are two types, commonly referred to as “good cholesterol” (HDL, or high density lipoproteins) and “bad cholesterol” (LDL, or low density lipoproteins). An improper balance of the two can result in a variety of health problems and greatly increase your risk of heart disease.

Crestor can reduce LDL cholesterol. It belongs to the family of drugs called “statins”, which lower your cholesterol and triglycerides. Crestor is a powerful solution to cholesterol problems, but it does not always come without side effects, some of which can be harsh. Always tell your doctor if you develop unusual symptoms.

Crestor’s side effects can be more dangerous if you have certain pre-existing medical conditions. Your doctor will consider your entire medical history and any other medications you are taking to decide if Crestor is right for you. In some cases, it is safe to take other medications alongside Crestor, but only at certain times; they may be safe when taken at a different part of the day, but not close together. It’s important that your doctor sets a schedule for you, and it’s equally important that you follow it closely.

Vytorin

Navigating the maze of information about high cholesterol can be dizzying. If your doctor has told you that your cholesterol is high, then you’ll want to make lifestyle and diet changes to help improve your overall health. You may also need medication to keep it under control. There are two types of cholesterol in the body. LDL cholesterol is what is often called “bad cholesterol”, and can increase your risk of heart disease. HDL, the “good cholesterol” helps remove LDL from the body. Triglycerides must also be considered, which are related to cholesterol. Too many triglycerides can be problematic.

Vytorin, like Crestor, is from the family of drugs called “statins”. It reduces the amount of cholesterol that the body produces, as well as limits triglyceride production. In addition, it can  help raise your HDL levels, which will further lower your LDL levels cholesterol.

Vytorin isn’t safe or effective for everyone. Vytorin should be avoided by pregnant women or women who may become pregnant while taking it. It is not safe for young girls who have not been menstruating for at least a year. Like Crestor, it can exacerbate pre-existing medical conditions, so your doctor will consider your entire medical history before deciding on a course of treatment.

Vytorin can cause side effects, and its effectiveness may be lowered by drinking alcohol or taking in grapefruit juice. It can also interact dangerously with other medications, so check with your doctor to make it’s okay before starting any new medications while taking Vytorin.

Vytorin has helped many people, and is generally considered an effective treatment option for people with high cholesterol. Still, your doctor must decide if it’s appropriate for you.

Zetia

If you have high cholesterol, you want to lower your LDL, commonly called “bad cholesterol”. HDL is the second type of cholesterol, the “good cholesterol.” HDL helps remove LDL from the body. Cholesterol is produced in the body naturally and is contained in some foods, especially animal products (because animals also produce cholesterol.) Lowering your cholesterol can lower your risk of heart disease significantly.

Zetia lowers LDL cholesterol. It is not a statin, like the previous two reviewed drugs, but it may be prescribed alongside one for further effects. When you eat, your body digests cholesterol from your food. Zetia works by decreasing the amount of cholesterol your body takes in from food.

Zetia is effective for many people, but sometimes there is a risk of severe side effects. It can interact with other treatments, from prescription medications to herbal remedies, and as such your doctor will decide if it’s right for you based on your other medications and your medical history. If you develop any unusual symptoms, notify your doctor at once.
